Training with Mark Durham, 14th March 2025
We were lucky enough to welcome Sensei Mark Durham, 8th Dan, to our club. Mark has a wealth of experience competing at international level and many years of refereeing. Mark's lesson was centred around improving our kime, and the training included strengthening our core, stances and focus.

Thanks to Calista, Charley and Austin for representing the club at the first comp of the year. It was Charley's first time competing and she performed confidently with her sister in the team kata event.
In March, Paul H and Michael stepped onto the mat and competed in their kata event, which is a great step in improving their confidence. Austin's skills are growing and he entered two kata events as well as kumite, picking up two bronze medals.

Thanks to Bella and Keira for representing our club. In a tough kata group, both girls performed a credible first round kata. Keira got through to the second round and won a bronze medal.
Keira also fought consistently, winning her first and second rounds of kumite, progressing to the final. After a tough start she was 3-0 down, but pulled back to draw even, 3 all. Keira then won the final point in the last seconds of the fight! Gold medal!

Dan Grading, 6th December 2022
CSKC hosted a black belt grading today examined by the chief instructor of the Toyakwai Karate Association, Sensei Joe Anderson, 9th Dan. Our instructors Iain Kinghorn and Daryl Bigg-Wither have been training hard for their advanced gradings. As well as practicing very technical kihon (basics and combinations) and additional kata, they have expanded their skills in self defence and kata bunkai (applications of the techniques).
Iain was awarded Yondan (4th Dan black belt) and Daryl earned Sandan (3rd Dan black belt). Well done! Sensei Tone and I are very proud of your progression.
